The Mercedes-AMG Project One from a Branding Standpoint
On September 11th, Mercedes-AMG revealed their new Project One hyper car at the International Auto Show in Frankfurt. This is the brand's newest 'halo" car, and it will definitely do it's job with that title. The car itself is a masterpiece of both appearance and functionality, and it should be with the price tag of 2.72 million dollars.
The Project One takes visual and performance roots from the majorly successful formula one team of Mercedes-Benz. It contains the 1.6 liter V6 hybrid motor straight from the f1 car that Lewis Hamilton is using to dominate the f1 championship. The F1 inspired hypercar pumps out over 1000 horsepower and weighs about the same figure in kilograms, which allows it to take the 1:1 power to weight ratio. It also has four electric motors that provide instant power to the wheels pushing it from 0-124mph in less than 6 seconds. For comparison, my 2012 Honda Civic takes about 8 seconds to get to 60mph.
The importance of this post is far more than just the looks and numbers of the car. It is important because of the branding value it holds for Mercedes-Benz as a company. I believe that we will notice AMG vehicles like the C63, E63, S63 and many others will absorb some of the Project One's technology in the future. With the release of this car, consumers will think of Mercedes-AMG as a leader in technology and innovation. The Mercedes brand will grow even stronger and I believe we will see a rise in sales thanks to the Project One.

I definitely agree that this Project One Hyper Car is going to help further their brand. I also believe that it will further legitimize the AMG nameplate as a true performance car and identify them as a leader in the automotive industry.
