Rimac Automobili is the Tesla of the Supercar World
First, I would like to explain what Rimac creates, and then I'll explain why they are going to influence every other supercar company in the world. Rimac Automobili was established by Mate Rimac to create a supercar for the 21st century. In his mind, this supercar needed to be completely electric while also having outrageous performance figures. The first car developed by Rimac was an electric version of the BMW M3 in 2010. This electric M3 has 600 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, which takes the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph.

Once Mate Rimac saw his BMW E-M3 beat gas powered cars of the same category, he went on to build and reveal the Rimac Concept One at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011. This car is full of incredible performance figures along with technology that has never been seen before in a supercar. It has four electric motors that produce 1073 hp and 1180 lb-ft of torque, which takes this car from 0-60 in 2.6 seconds while also holding a top speed of 221 mph. Only 8 were supposed to be made and the price tag? A healthy $1.4 million dollars.

The performance figures are incredibly impressive, but the most intriguing aspect of Rimac is the technology they have created. The new wave of electric cars has begun and many countries are imposing stricter requirements around automotive pollution. These requirements are going to eventually force supercar companies to use smaller engines with electric motors, or potentially only allow completely electric vehicles. Rimac has been well ahead of the game, and now many different companies are paying Rimac hefty amounts of money for agreements to use their technology in their own industries.
To prove how outrageously quick the Rimac Concept One is, here is a video of it racing against the $929,000 Porsche 918 Spyder. Enjoy!
Wow! I can't believe it did this to one of the 3 fastest hybrid cars in the world now! I also can't imagine what it would be like to drive an electric version of an M3... truly amazing! Again, awesome videos man!
Great post - Rimac Automobili is really paving the way for the automotive industry. Just like Tesla disrupted the market, I believe that Rimac will do the same. It is important to look at where the automotive market is headed when creating cars and I feel that Rimac did that. They know that the regulations are getting stricter, people want more efficient and better performing cars. They are fulfilling that by creating all electric cars. While their car isn't for the average buyer - they have the ability to break into that market if they want to!
Beautiful car and fascinating technology. I just wonder when more of this cool technology will trickle down to impact regular cars you see on the road.
I hope this technology will quickly trickle down to other standard cars. It's a fascinating topic, and it will be interesting to see what happens in the next 10 years. Thank you for commenting!
